Winners of the prestigious Natural and Organic Awards 2014, hosted in association with the Soil Association, were announced at the Natural and Organic Products show on Sunday 13 April at the Novotel London West.
The annual ceremony, now in its nineteenth year, recognizes and celebrates the organic industry’s most innovative businesses and products in categories such as retail, drinks, and beauty.
Presented by BBC Countryfile’s Julia Bradbury, the awards have become the benchmark for excellence and set a standard for innovation, quality, and commitment in the natural and organic sector. Julia Bradbury said: “The contribution organic food and farming is making to protecting wildlife is fantastic. Equally important is the way that organic is helping to reconnect people with where their food comes from. It’s so refreshing to hear about initiatives like the Food For Life Partnership in schools, which have inspired so many schoolchildren – and their families – to cook and grow their own food.”
The 2014 awards, for the first time ever, included the Soil Association Organic Innovation Award – awarded to a new concept or idea, which has been launched during the past 12 months.
The inaugural winner of the Soil Association Organic Innovation Award was Halkær Ådal (hell-care-o-dell) Eco, with their Organic Food from River Valley at Halkær – a range of meals for the elderly. Using organic, wild harvested and heritage ingredients, this inspirational range of traditional recipes meals is the result of a collaboration between local Danish organic farmers and published cook, Edith Agerbo. The Halkær Ådal range offers a high quality, healthy and affordable meal solution specifically developed to meet the need of elderly consumers.
